I honestly don't know how much will get done these next few weeks as its all work this week then next week we are in New Orleans, LA -- Any LYS I should check out? But maybe I will bring some YOP stuff to work on while in NOLA. Short & sweet, now I have to go crochet a pig & a hat :-)

FO Friday, 7.27.12

So I had posted this from my phone, or so I had thought, now there is no draft even of it on here let alone a post.

Oh well! Here is my FOs for this week
 A little Owl named Maria
A hat for my California girl Brady -- She loved it so much she slept in it.
A Baseball hat for Mr. Charlie Man -- Brady's brother Luke also got one -- will get a picture up once I get one.
A wine cozy for my aunt's 60th b-day.

All FOs were for family besides the Owl, had a great time at our little family reunion! Here is the whole gang:

We range in age from 13 months to 94 years. <3

Linking up with Tami's Amis as usual :-)

WIP Wednesday, 7.25.12

Believe it or not I have NO amigurumi's to share this week. That's because I finished one yesterday and don't have the right yarn for the next one. But that doesn't mean that I don't have anything to share!
I started this wine bottle cozy for my aunt to hold a nice bottle of wine for her 60th which is tomorrow. However I have since frogged it, I really didn't like how the colors were working with the cables -- you can hardly see them! Live & learn right? So I will start again shortly with a solid color. I'm thinking purple or green, I may have to flip a coin.

I also started the Spring Training Cap from the March/April issue of Crochet Today! Right now it's just a white circle of DC. I will show you it all finished on Friday, perhaps even with a picture of Charlie wearing it!!

That's it for me for today, have some cleaning and packing to do, we are beach bound for a few days to spend with the family in celebration of my aunt's 60th!!

Check in with other WIPs over at Tami's Amis!

Maria the Owl

Maria is a shy but brilliant little owl. Possibly from asking "Whoooo?" all the time.

Maria was made using the Nelson the Owl pattern by Fresh Stitches
Pretty much love all of Stacey's patterns! Made her with white, heather grey, teal & orange acrylic yarns from my stash. Used my first set of Suncatcher Eyes (Go-Go-Maine-Crafters!)
Want me to make you you're very own owl? Check out Maria on Etsy!

On Wednesday I posted about the awesome yarn score I got at Marden's (a surplus store in Maine). All of the yarn I got was for YOP projects! This first set is super nice Cascade -- some of the nicest yarn I have bought to date. These came from the LYS Quiltessentials and will be for the Purple Stitch Project Penguin.
This set is what I got at Marden's about $100-$150 worth for $30! SCORE! The Aqua & some of the Chocolate will be for my purse. The gold, carrot & chocolate (guessing on these colors as they only have #s listed) will be for mom's wrap. And the purple will be for more Purple Stitch Projects!

That's it for today! I don't have to get ready for work for another hour and a half so I think I will spend that time with hook & yarn! Come Blog-a-Long with your YOPs!

FO Friday, 7.20.12

Going to be a quick one today as I had a rough softball game last night and chose to sleep in a bit more than usual today. 2nd inning I got pegged in the knee with a line drive so hard that there are marks from where the stitches hit me. Finished off the rest of the game though, which maybe I shouldn't have in hind sight... ow!

I got Cheese all finished! I will write more about him later and even post the pattern!

That's what I've gotten finished this week. See what others are up to over at Tami's Amis

WIP Wednesday, 7.18.12

So I really thought this guy was going to skip being a WIP post. I am so close to completion that I can taste it! However, last night as I was finishing him up I sewed his leg to the bottom of his foot instead of the top so he had two left feet. If I hadn't made one toe bigger than the other two this wouldn't have been a problem, but I did, cus, well, it's cute that way! After a bit of cursing and the ever-so-smart husband saying, "Maybe that means it's time to stop crocheting and go to bed", I gave it up and he is still a WIP -- not for long though!!!!

Check back on Friday to hear more about this little guy :-)

Because some of my Year in Projects projects have some tricky patterns I decided to get the Crochet Sampler Cowl workshop on Craftsy.com. I started it yesterday and this is what I have so far.

I also HAVE to share the yarn score I got last night! I posted this photo to my Facebook page as I went to the LYS (Quiltessentials) and got some very nice Cascade yarn (nicest yarn I have bought to date) for the Purple Stitch Project, they even gave me a discount as it was for the PSP!

So my friend Amie saw this post and told me that Marden's was just putting out a slew of yarn. If you've never been to or even heard of Marden's, let me tell you, it's always an experience! It is a surplus and salvage store, so a warehouse has water damage, Marden's will buy up what's still good, a company makes too much of something, Marden's will buy it. Then they will sell it for SUPER cheep!!! You can get most anything there, furniture, clothing, food, flooring, appliances, however the slogan is "You should have bought it, when you saw it, at Marden's" and that is so the case because stuff doesn't stay there long and who knows what's going to come in next! So I jumped off the couch last night after seeing that comment and went back into town. So glad I did though! I spotted some boxes that still hadn't been unpacked that said Coats on it so I know it's all Red Heart yarn, and man was there a ton of it! I really should have taken a photo now that I think of it...... But at least I got a photo of what I bought! I tried to look up the style #s online but couldn't find anything. My guess is that this is probably $100 worth of yarn. I paid $30!!! The best thing is that I got the yarn for 3 projects on my YOP list!!

So that's been my week so far (well mostly just my yesterday). What have you got for WIPs? Show your stuff over at Tami's Amis. You know I will be!

Year of Projects, 7.15.12

Year of Projects List
• Floor Poof
• T-Shirt rag rug
• Crochet clock
• Yarn bomb something
• Crochet dress for Adult Prom 2013
• Liam's Blanket
• Carson's Blanket

Me & Liam
So I have two additions this week, Liam's Blanket & Carson's Blanket. I thought I had Liam's Blanket on here already. I started it earlier this year when I had taught myself to crochet but it's been on the back burner since I got my paws on Amigurumis! My goal is to have his and his brother Carson's blankets done by the time Carson arrives around Thanksgiving. I have yet to choose a pattern for Carson's blanket.

I have also been thinking about what I am going to start on first for my YOP. Been thinking a lot about the Purple Stitch Project and my project for that. I'm torn between a Buttercup Bear or working up the Silly Little Penguin I have sketched up in my notebook. Personally I am leaning more towards the latter. Now it's just about getting some yarn. I want to use variegated for some reason, maybe because I don't usually for my Amis. But I think also because I have been seeing a lot of projects (lots of Wingspans) out there using special variegated yarns that look so pretty! I am thinking that a trip to my LYS (it'll be my first time to this one) may be in order to get some special yarn. I also looked at Candy Skein's worsted selection and she has some nice purples if I can't find something that calls to me at my LYS.

I have also found (couldn't find it for a while there) & bought the Crochet Sampler Cowl workshop on Craftsy.com to further my pattern reading skills. I am hoping this will help me with the purse & wrap patterns I already have.

That's it for me this week. Come Blog-a-Long with us!

FO Friday, 7.13.12

Oooooo Friday the 13th! Finished this little guy this morning after a photo shoot with Lee Auto & before going grocery shopping. And in a few I will be heading into the Studio for a busy afternoon/evening of shoots!

WIP Wednesday, 7.11.12

An on the run WIP today, as I had to leave an hour earlier than usual to go down to the Portsmouth studio. So it'll be a quick one today.

I'm one leg and a tail away from finishing Mumford. (anyone get the reference?)

I also started a non-ami this week. It is a table runner from a Lion Brand pattern (i will get a link when I'm back on the big computer). Love the color and its allowing me to use some of my stash yarn. However I may need to get some more colors to finish it.

That's what I'm up to this week. Follow along with Tami's Amis to see what other WIPs are out there!

Eugene the Mosquito

Buzzz....Buzzzzz....Buzzzz... SWAT!

I am not a fan of mosquitos in the least bit, but for some reason they LOVE me! My husband likes to joke that there is no need for anyone else to wear bug spray if I am around. But how can you not like this little guy! I couldn't swat at him, could you?

Pattern Used: Dale the Mosquito from FreshStitches
Yarn Used: Stash Yarn, Red Heart Super Saver maybe? Worsted Acryllic
Size: 6.5" from end of wings to the tip of the stinger, stands about 3" tall

FO Friday, 7.6.12

July already? And to think next month I will be sweating my butt of & enjoying myself in New Orleans -- never been, any "must sees"?

So earlier in the week I had gotten to a point in my "to-make" list that it was all "If you make one I'll buy one" orders, not things that had been paid for up front so I really didn't have one project pulling me in over any of the others so I thought I'd make something NOT on the ordered list.

I won this Fresh Stitches pattern from Abby over at Fiber Doodle and since the Mosquito is Maine's State Insect and they seem to LOVE me (the running joke is that no bug spray is needed for anyone else if I am around) I thought I 'd make him up for fun. Thought maybe I could put him in mom & dad's store and see if they sold, but now I'm almost thinking I will hang him from my rearview mirror :-)

What do you think? Keep him or sell him?

It feels good to make something for fun! Have you made anything for fun lately?

Year of Projects, Week 2

I am overwhelmed, humbled, in awe, of all the response from my first week's YOP post! It is my first group in Ravelry, and first blog-a-long, but I am really enjoying the feedback already!

This week I haven't started anything on my list yet but I do have an addition.

Year of Projects List
• Floor Poof
• T-Shirt rag rug
• Crochet clock
• Yarn bomb something
• Crochet dress for Adult Prom 2013
Akita Amigurimi (NEW)

I also wanted to tell you all a little more about some of the items on my list.

The Crochet Purse was the first pattern I every bought, before I was even making Ami's I think. However I haven't started it yet. I have looked at the pattern and it's not as simple as what I have been doing with the Ami's, I may need a little help with this one. Which means I may need to get out of my online crochet bubble and find some REAL people in my area that can help. (However I remember once seeing a "How to read patterns" class on Craftsy but can't seem to find it now...)

I had a beanbag chair in my old studio that would help with posing babies who weren't quite sitting up on their own but too big for our infant poser. When I was moved to a different studio I couldn't take it with me and haven't found one at a good price that is the consistancy/poofieness/squishness that I want. So I'll make one :-)

The wrap for my mom is going to be made in monotone neutral colors, why? Because my mom rocks!

I had once had the idea that I was going to make t-shirt quilts so I listed on Craigslist that I was looking for old t-shirts for free. I got a ton of responses, and I found out that sewing is not quite my cup of tea. So now I have 1/2 a closet full of t-shirts, time to make tyarn!

Crochet clock, just because!

I would LOVE to have one of these in my backyard:

But wouldn't know where to start, so I will start small with some yarn bombing around the house, and maybe if I am daring, out in public somewhere.... I will have to read up on some tips & tricks, anyone know if there are any good books about Yarn Bombing?

We just had out second annual Adult Prom this past weekend. About a week prior I was talking with some of the girls and one sarcastically asked if I was going to crochet myself a prom dress. They are going to eat their words next year!!!! Some possibilities:

My sister-in-law was in a military accident and has multiple skull fractures and brain injuries that cause her to now be epileptic. So when I saw posts about the Purple Stitch Project I knew I had to do it! I am thinking of doing Fresh Stitches Howie the Penguin. But am still up in the air about it. I have some drawings of my own silly little penguin that I have yet to work up into a pattern or stuffie. Thinking that this is a great reason to get on that! May just have to make one fro Christy too :-)

Akita Ami, it is afterall what actually got me into crochet! (Check out the About Me page to see how)

Sophie & Sylvan Bears

Pattern: Buttercup Bear from Yellow, Pink & Sparkly
Yarn: Lily's Sugar'n'Cream in Rose, Hot Pink, Light Blue & Hot Blue
Hook: Sophie, H Sylvan, G
Finished Size: Sophie, 15" Sylvan, 13"

I started out making Sophie and once the body was done and stuffed I felt like the holes were a bit too big for my taste but was too far in to frog it. However for Sylvan I went down an hook size and am much happier with the results! Will use a G hook on this pattern from here on out :-) Still am up in the air about the cotton yarn, but overall I think I would use it again.
