WIP Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

It's nice to only have one WIP at the moment, but leads to a shorter blog post. So guess I will keep it simple -- then try to figure out what we are going to do for the Fourth! Four-wheeling is at the top of the list but still undecided about that with the threat of the rain.

Anywhoo, whatever we do we will see plenty of these today, and they will eat me alive! Who knows why I wanted to crochet something that I curse all summer. Can you guess what he is?

I also decided to join in the Year of Projects Blog-a-Long group on Ravelry. I have started my list, and have one more thing to add to it but will wait until Sunday so that I actually have a post on it since I haven't started any of them yet! Hopefully it will be some motivation to get out of my stuffies zone for a while and expand my crochet :-)

That's what I have going on at the moment! What about you? Check in with what everyone else is doing over at Tami's Amis!

Everyone have a safe & happy 4th!

Year of Projects, Week 1

Many of the blogs I follow are participating in a Year of Projects group on Ravelry where they set out with a list of projects they want to do that year and post every Sunday about their progress. This week starts the beginning of the 2nd year so I thought I'd join in the fun!!

So this first post is all about the list. If you haven't noticed already or are new to this blog, I like lists, I like creating them to help organize my thoughts, but most of all I love being able to cross things off my list! (On a side note I think I will start keeping my completed items on my To-Do Tuesday posts so that I can see how far I have come & what has actually been completed!)

Anyway, back to YoP... I have a steady stream of projects for stuffies coming in so those are always going to be on my to-do list so I thought with the YoP I would make a list of items that I would like to make that aren't necessarily part of my "everyday crochet".

Year of Projects List
• Floor Poof
• T-Shirt rag rug
• Crochet clock
• Yarn bomb something
• Crochet dress for Adult Prom 2013

This is a start.... We will see how far I get with this :-)

A few questions for those seasoned YoP bloggers... Is there a prompt every week or do we just post on our progress? Lists can be added to correct?

Another side note... On all the link parties I link to I am going to make it a habit of checking out & commenting on at least the person who linked up before me to make things a bit more interactive. I know I love it when others comment on my blog :-)

To-Do Tuesday, 7.3.12

An update for the To-Do Tuesday, gives an idea of what's on the list, what is slow going, what is getting done, and what I need a kick in the ass to get working on! What's on your To-Do List?

Where did July come from!?!?!? Was REALLY looking forward to my Tuesday off—my studio is closed on Tuesdays, so it's usually a guaranteed day off. Every other Tuesday, however, I go to Camden to help my dad at his art gallery & store. This was my off Tuesday, was going to clean the crap out of the house and get some crochet done. Yeah that's not the case. Today I get to drive 2 hours to Rochester, NH to work in a studio there, YIPPIE.... not! But they were in a hard spot for coverage and it is really hard for me to say no. It will be a huge paycheck though, overtime, plus Holiday pay, plus mileage & drive time for today & Sunday when I had to open my studio then drive to Portsmouth, NH and close that one.

LEGO Mosaic

KC w/ her Mosaic
My husband & I refuse to grow up and still love to play with LEGOs. Can you guess how many photos we took when we went to LEGOLAND in CA? We have a caricature of the two of us as LEGO minifigs hanging in our living room across from a LEGO mosaic of our pup KC (you should all know by now how much we love our pooch!)

We sell custom Mosaics on Etsy and as they have a pretty price tag and are very customized they sell slowly. We did just make one for a customer in VA. Her husband is coming home from the military after being deployed in the Middle East and she got one made for him as his welcome home gift (awesome gift I might add!) He is a Detroit Lions fan so we did it of the team Logo. I set it up so we knew what color LEGOs and how many we needed, placed the order and then Kevin & I glued all the pieces in and actually created the mosaic (he did most of it actually). Then we mounted it and got it ready to hang. We shipped it out yesterday, I am excited to hear how she receives it and her Husband's reaction to it when he sees it on their wall.

Here are some images to show the progress.

FO Friday, 6.29.12

Good Morning!!! And Happy Friday! To many of you this means the weekend is here, but to me it's just the Tuesday of my work week. Fun!

Anywho, this is what I have to show for today!

Sophie Bear
It's kind of hard to shoot outdoors with natural light when it's rained every day since I finished her. I promise, the next time I am home and it is clear & dry & light out I will get "real" photos of her. I am working on her brother now, Sylvan, have his body, head & ears done & attached, working on one of his legs. Went down a hook size for Sylvan, interested to see the size difference of the finished bears.

LEGO Mosaic

So who wants a mosaic of THEIR favorite sports team? Or pet? Or child? Or still life of yarn and crochet hooks??

And last but not least (definitely too the most time!) Wedding Photos for Joe & Julie. Here are some of my favorites.

A day late on the FO Friday, but at least I started the post on Friday right....?

Let's see what you've got! Show off your FOs with me and others over at Tami's Amis!

WIP Wednesday, 6.27.12

So I haven't gotten too far with the teddy bear, but at least there is progress. I am using an H hook and think for the blue bear I will go down a hook size as I think it could be a bit tighter.

I have had to split my time three ways lately between wedding photos, LEGO Mosaics and crochet. I am happy to report that both the other two are done or nearly done! Finished up and sent out the photos today and we just have the hanging hardware to put on the mosaic and we are done! I will share more on Friday!

As for now, its mainly back to crochet, yay, I've missed it.

On a side note I went to my first LYS (local yarn store) yesterday, The Cashmire Goat in Camden. Although I wouldn't say the store as a whole was overly crochet friendly, only one hook for sale and no crochet patterns, books, or samples (except for the Vogue Knitting Crochet issue) the people were quite friendly. I asked them about spinning KCs fur and they are going to ask some of their contacts about it. Anyone out there in the blogisphere ever heard of spinning dog fur into yarn?

They did have some really nice yarn and I wish I were more proficient at crochet, because a lot of those very nice yarns may not lend themselves well to what I can do, amigurumi. Okay so they may work as amigurumi, but its just not practical to pay $20+/skein in 3 different colors so you can make a stuffed bunny out of silk. Oh but how nice that bunny would feel.... Some day I will be able to purchase really nice yarn and make something beautiful and practical :)

So that's what I'm working on this week. What are you working on? Follow along with others and share your WIPs at Tami's Amis.
