FO Friday, 7.12.13

So for a while now I have been posting that I have been working on a few super secret projects. Well the time has come to reveal one of them! My aunt had asked me to fix a granny square afghan for my cousin. What I didn't realize until after getting it and talking with my aunt more was that this afghan was made for my aunt when she was a teenager and it was made by her grandmother -- my great grandmother. Finding this out made it that much more special for me to work on!
Here are the before images of the squares that needed to be fixed:

In all there were 9 squares to be fixed. I undid the seams between squares and re-crocheted new squares to put in their places. Here are some photos of it finished.

I don't know if the original main color was off-white to begin with or got that way with age, but trying to match it was near impossible, so instead I used straight white for the main color on my squares. This way you can see the old ones vs. the new ones. I like it this way, then my cousin can know which ones I did and the ones our great-grandmother did.

This week I also started & finished a little dog as an order for my friend Sarah. Here is that little guy, I think I will name him Hudson. He is a Fresh Stitches pattern and oh so cute. Done in Bernat Super Value in Walnut and a mystery Marden's dark chocolate brown.

FO Friday, 6.21.13

Happy First Day of Summer!! I have one finished project to show you today, and it will be a quick one as I am going to try to get an hour of crochet in before I need to go to work (was supposed to be my day off, but what can you do?)

A very pink owl for my college roommate Hilary. She has one of the tiny owl's from Fresh Stitches as well and with a new baby on the way will have a second tiny one and a daddy owl coming her way. :-)

Yarn: Lots of Pink Acrylic! One Pound in Soft Pink, Red Heart Super Saver in Shocking Pink, Light Raspberry & White

FO Friday, 5.10.13

So as promised here is a roundup of what has been finished since my last FO post (March 15th).

Probably was my two least productive crochet months since I learned how to crochet in January, 2012.

First we had a butterfly:
This was made for the daughter of a woman we bowl with. She wanted a butterfly and when I asked her what color she said Rainbow! I wanted a snuggly butterfly so I came up with my own pattern, if there is interested I would be willing to share it :-) Shayna (the little girl) apparently sleeps with it every night.

Next we have a bunny:

This little guy was made from a Fiberdoodles by K4TT pattern. I had planned to get better photos of him and post him to Etsy just in time for Easter, however that is when my grandfathers health issues started up.

I also made a Turtle & Skunk (modified Bunny) from Fiberdoodles patterns and didn't even take a photo of them... I was not on the ball.

I also made two shawls from this pattern. One was made in Bernat Satin for my grandmother as a prayer shawl and I made myself one from ArtYarns Cotton Spring in Color 1006 which I got as my "tourist" yarn from my trip to Florida in February. I have not photographed my shawl yet, but here are some photos of my grandmothers.

She really does love it. She called two nights in a row telling me about all the compliments she gets on it. I have to say, I like the one that I made her better than the one I made myself as the variegated yarn didn't lend itself too well to the pattern. I was however impressed with my ability to follow and finish this intermediate pattern easily, I guess my skills are improving :-)

FO Friday, 3.8.13

Just finished this little guy and did a photo shoot for him. Anyone guess what he was? Well, his name is Rascal, and he is a frog.

Pattern: Flip the Frog, Fiberdoodles by K4TT
Yarn: Bernat Super Value in Kelly & Red Heart Super Saver in White

Also finished off two mosquitos earlier this week. One will be going to Australia as it was an Etsy order. And one is headed to Tennessee via one of our bowling buddies.

Pattern: Mosquito by Fresh Stitches
Yarn: Bernat Super Value in True Grey & Red Heart Super Saver in White

You can see more of Rascal's Photo Shoot on my Facebook Page.

FO Friday 3.1.13

Been a little quiet on the blog this week and I apologize, I was on vacation (YAY!!!) and I intended to post while away but I ended up being sick the whole time (BOOOO!!!). Lets just say it was a very restful vacation.

But I do have some FOs to show you!

FInished the second of the pair of Penguins as well as an all Purple Penguin. All three are for a member of my bowling league.

For the black penguins I used spare acrylic - Red Heart Super Saver in black, white & grey tweed
Mystery Marden's Yarn in shiny hot blue
and Everyday Soft in baby yellow
And for the Purple Penguin I used Mystery Marden's Yarn in three shades of purple
Used the momma penguin pattern from Amigurumi World

Next I was able to complete a little moose for my friend Aly, her sister-in-law just had a baby and went moose hunting while 6 months pregnant so she thought this would be a great gift for baby Hudson, I agreed. She also asked me to sew his initials on the paw.

Pattern: Moose from Crocheted Softies by Stacey Trock (Fresh Stitches)
Yarn: Bernat Super Value in Rustic Heather, Red Heart Super Saver in white & black

I had a lot of resting time on vacation like I had mentioned so I was able to actually work on something while watching tv -- although it didn't go quickly as I got tired easily -- I probably got more done because I was sick and inside instead of out and about actually enjoying myself. What's nice is that I have a finished project to share and it's NOT a stuffie AND it's for ME!!! Not usually the way things go around here, but I intentionally brought "me" items on vacation to work on :-)

Yarn: Marden's Mystery Yarn in Hot Blue & Chocolate Brown

I really like it and will use it a lot. Was originally thinking of making it my project bag, but will have to line it if I keep with that thought as I could see myself loosing a lot of hooks that way.

Hooking up with Tami's Amis to see all the other FOs.
