FO Friday, 6.29.12

Good Morning!!! And Happy Friday! To many of you this means the weekend is here, but to me it's just the Tuesday of my work week. Fun!

Anywho, this is what I have to show for today!

Sophie Bear
It's kind of hard to shoot outdoors with natural light when it's rained every day since I finished her. I promise, the next time I am home and it is clear & dry & light out I will get "real" photos of her. I am working on her brother now, Sylvan, have his body, head & ears done & attached, working on one of his legs. Went down a hook size for Sylvan, interested to see the size difference of the finished bears.

LEGO Mosaic

So who wants a mosaic of THEIR favorite sports team? Or pet? Or child? Or still life of yarn and crochet hooks??

And last but not least (definitely too the most time!) Wedding Photos for Joe & Julie. Here are some of my favorites.

A day late on the FO Friday, but at least I started the post on Friday right....?

Let's see what you've got! Show off your FOs with me and others over at Tami's Amis!

WIP Wednesday, 6.27.12

So I haven't gotten too far with the teddy bear, but at least there is progress. I am using an H hook and think for the blue bear I will go down a hook size as I think it could be a bit tighter.

I have had to split my time three ways lately between wedding photos, LEGO Mosaics and crochet. I am happy to report that both the other two are done or nearly done! Finished up and sent out the photos today and we just have the hanging hardware to put on the mosaic and we are done! I will share more on Friday!

As for now, its mainly back to crochet, yay, I've missed it.

On a side note I went to my first LYS (local yarn store) yesterday, The Cashmire Goat in Camden. Although I wouldn't say the store as a whole was overly crochet friendly, only one hook for sale and no crochet patterns, books, or samples (except for the Vogue Knitting Crochet issue) the people were quite friendly. I asked them about spinning KCs fur and they are going to ask some of their contacts about it. Anyone out there in the blogisphere ever heard of spinning dog fur into yarn?

They did have some really nice yarn and I wish I were more proficient at crochet, because a lot of those very nice yarns may not lend themselves well to what I can do, amigurumi. Okay so they may work as amigurumi, but its just not practical to pay $20+/skein in 3 different colors so you can make a stuffed bunny out of silk. Oh but how nice that bunny would feel.... Some day I will be able to purchase really nice yarn and make something beautiful and practical :)

So that's what I'm working on this week. What are you working on? Follow along with others and share your WIPs at Tami's Amis.

FO Friday, 6.22.12

I'm back! Missed FO Friday last week because, well, I hadn't finished anything :-( But I have now!

A cupcake for one of my customers! I have been photographing Celia since she was a month old, she is now 8 months. Her mom, Christina, is a regular and in to the studio about once a week. Christina calls Celia her little Cupcake, so I just had to make this for her! It's been in the works for a while, so I am glad it is finally finished!

Miss Charlotte the Pig was also finished early in the week. She's still sitting on my hutch as her new mom hasn't replied to the messages that she has a pig ready & waiting for her.

Today is my long day at work, 11 hours w/ an hour drive on either end - yuck. So probably won't get much crochet done except for maybe a little on my lunch break. But I do have this Sunday off for my little nephew Charlie's 1st Birthday party!! He is coming in today for his photos, I have gotten him an adult size dress shirt & tie to wear, he will wear this every year for his birthday portraits until he fits into the shirt :-) This idea of mine is actually featured on the SPS Facebook Page, along with a photo of me and other replies to different questions. I'm one of 10 up there, makes me feel a little famous!

That's it for me today, time to work on a few wedding photos before getting ready for work. Hopefully I will get some crochet in tonight, but I also have to start & finish a birthday present for Charlie man and for Mara, my sister, Charlie's mom.

Let's see what you've got! Show off your FOs with me and others over at Tami's Amis!

WIP Wednesday, June 20th 2012

I write this as my husband has gone off to do a test that can determine his career. I am nervous for him and can tell he is, even if he doesn't admit it. I am sure he will do just fine. We will find out in a few hours. In the meantime my fingers are crossed so hard it hurts.

Now on to my Work-In-Progresses.
I have a few things on my plate lately so yesterday I would work on one thing for an hour, then do some house chores, then work on another thing for an hour, then do some house chores and so on. I'm planning on doing the same today, with maybe some lake time wedged in there somewhere, it's supposed to be 95+ today!!!

For Crochet I am working on a fat bottomed bear. I found the pattern at Yellow, Pink & Sparkly. I am using this pattern for the boy & girl (blue & pink) order that was placed. Up until this point I have only used acrylic yarn for my Amigurumi's. But after a trip to the two craft stores in town and not finding the "right" color pink, I found myself standing in front of the Sugar n' Cream display. I ended up with the color ways Rose & Hot Pink for the girl and Light Blue & Hot Blue for the boy. I am still torn on if I like it or not but will wait until they are finished for my final verdict. It seems smoother rather than softer if that makes sense. Also it makes my hands feel dry, is that the absorbent nature of the cotton removing the moisture from my hands?

We also have most of what we need for the LEGO mosaic and I started on that yesterday. We are just waiting on a shipment from the LEGO.com store that should arrive today or tomorrow then we can really get cooking on it! That order has the greys in it, which is a majority of the color in the mosaic. I was able to buy, cut, sand & paint the backing that we will mount the final mosaic to as well I laid out the baseplates and cut them down to side if needed, put the grid on them and even started gluing down some LEGOs.  The mosaic we have in our home is not glued, but with shipping this we though gluing may be a safe choice!

I also got a large chunk of Wedding Photos edited for Joe & Julie. Still a bunch to go so I'd better get on that now!

That's what I've been working on this week, how about you? You can see what others have on their hooks/needles over at Tami's Amis.

Charlotte the Pig

Meet Charlotte the Pig. She is a sweet & shy little piggy. She likes to take early morning swims in the mud holes while all the other piggys are still sleeping. In the afternoon you will find her curled up in the shade of a big oak tree. She warms to people slowly, but once she has she will be your friend for life. She loves strawberries, so bringing some to your first meeting may help her open up a little bit. She is a stout little piggy at about 7" tall.

You can have your very own Charlotte Pig HERE!

WIP Wednesday, 6.13.12

Good morning all! It's another WIP Wednesday to share what we all have been working on. Unfortunately I have had so much other stuff (photography & LEGO mosaic) going on that I haven't gotten much crochet in :-/ I was able to shoot, edit and deliver photos for Lee Auto and also able to work on a few of the wedding photos from a few weeks ago, I really need to get my butt in gear on those, I am going to push myself to get them done by this time next week. Which probably means little crochet will get done. Why do I have to do such silly things like work & sleep? A good chunk of my time last Thursday was ordering LEGOs for a mosaic my husband and I were commissioned to do. You can check the one we did of our dog KC here. This one will be of the Detroit Lions logo. We are in Camden at my parents home now, but when we left the LEGOs were already starting to come in. To save on $$ we try to buy all our LEGOs on BrickLink which is essentially a marketplace of buyers and sellers of new and used LEGOs. Will definitely post our progress photos and final images once it's done. But all is not lost, I have been able to do a little crochet on my lunch breaks at work. I am working on a piggy and not working from a pattern, so we will see how she turns out. I'm still lacking on a name for her, any suggestions?

Oh and what's that holding my bright pink ball of yarn? That's my oh so amazing yarn bowl my mom got me for my birthday! I love it! It's made by Ning's Pottery. That's what I've been working on this week, how about you? You can see what others have on their hooks/needles over at Tami's Amis.

FO Friday, 6.8.12

Good Morning!
Glad I can share some finished items today as I don't see much crochet in my future *tear* as I have about 1800 photos to edit between a few different events and Kevin & I were just commissioned to create a 24"x30" Lego Mosaic. Will definitely post pictures of both as they progress.

However I do have two FOs to share with you today. First is the baby blanket my coworker asked me to fix. It was her daughters first baby blanket as the hospital gave it to her when she was born. Their little Jack Russell apparently thought it was his though because he chewed his way right through it then had a ball pulling and unraveling it.
From This

To This
I deliver it today at work. There may be some tears.

I also finished Peter the Police Officer Dinosaur, packing him up and shipping him out today :-) He is a joint Father's Day/Gift for Baby for one of my sorority sister's husband & child. Pretty sure he will be loved by all of them.

That's it for today (at least I think it is, my brain has been fried lately). Have you finished anything this week? See others who have finished items over at Tami's Amis!

Peter the Police Officer Dinosaur

It's awful lonely being the only Dinosaur in Turner, Maine. So after watching some late night 9-1-1 reruns he decided that he wanted to become a Dino Cop. He is now hoping to make some new police officer buddies in Brunswick, Maine.
