FO Friday, 1.4.13

So apparently I have to train my fingers to type & write 2013...

Anywho, lots of FOs to show you this week, so I'd best get started!
So to start I have three cell phone cases I made for our bowling team mates.
Case #1

Case #2
Case #3

Pattern: None, free form made them, will post how either this evening or tomorrow morning
Yarn: Leftover variegated acrylic yarn, most likely Red Heart. (This was some of the first yarn I bought)

Next up was the Penguins. I finished the boy one last week but added the finishing touches and completed the girl this week.

Pattern: from Amigurumi World
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Black & other leftover acrylic yarns (one of my goals for 2013 is keeping better track of my yarns)

Now for another FO, Denny the Giraffe:

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver - Cornmeal & Bernat Supervalue - Rustic Heather

All of the previous FOs today are for people on our bowling league. Just show's how much bringing crochet to bowling gets people interested. The next two are for people at work, another place I bring my crochet for down time. First up is a Bunny (who was the first finished project of 2013):

Pattern: Woolly Jumpers
Yarn: Bernat Super Value - True Grey. Grey & White Tweed style acrylic yarn, possibly Red Heart.

And last but not least, a Zombie Kitty:

Spencer the Zombie Kitty is ready for his cameo on the Walking Dead
Pattern: Japanese Ameniko Pattern translated by Oh the Cuteness!
Yarn: Bernat Supervalue in Grass & Red Heart Super Saver in Tea Leaf.
I did a few things different on this Spencer, used a different color yarn (in the past have used the Tea Leaf as the main color & black for the paws) this time went all green. Also made a "bite mark" on his arm where I chained some and skipped the same number of SC's while going around. This allows for the stuffing to show through. Patched it up with a simple cross stitch in black. Also photographed him on my green screen background so that I could superimpose him into this photo from the Walking Dead. (Which is a super addictive show, even for a super scardie cat like me!)

Starting this week at the end of my posts on Fridays you will see an updated counter, it will show the total # of projects finished so far in 2013.

As always, checking in with Tami's Amis for FO Friday!

PS... look for something new this Sunday!

WIP Wednesday, 1.2.13

Here's to the first Work-in-Progress Wednesday of 2012!

It's a wonder what two full days off in a row can do! Monday, Kevin had the day off as well so while he was outside clearing the driveway of the snow we got earlier in the week I was doing some chores inside. Then I got bundled up and went outside with him to play on the sleds. He must have been thinking the same thing because when I got out there he had just started them up and were letting them warm up.  We can get on the snowmobile trails right from the house which is pretty convenient! Last year he traded his old truck for two sleds and a trailer. Before that we have only ever had one sled, which meant I rode on the back. I didn't grow up riding like he did and with the poor winter we had last year & my sled having issues, we only got out once. That was when the trails had been groomed, this year we were breaking trail -- a little rough on the bodies to say the least! We only went about 8 miles and in that 8 miles I managed to hit a little tree (nicked it with the ski) and get stuck off the trail in deep snow three times. Fortunately Kevin was there to help, I definitely won't be going out on my own!

We went out to Kevin's Dad's house for NYE and had a really good time! Was able to finish a stuffie in between eating, playing with the nephews, sledding & lighting off fireworks. Two of Kevin's step brothers are firefighters so they had a whole show set up for us, they even got cheers from neighbors we didn't know were watching. We set them off at 9 because the little ones probably wouldn't make it up until midnight. After we had all been back inside for a while one of Kevin's brothers noticed that the fireworks table had caught on fire and was setting a few remaining fireworks off. Oops! Fortunately they had been smart enough to put the table in the middle of the big field away from anything else!

I spent yesterday cleaning & crocheting and was able to start & finish my first project of 2013. Makes me wonder how many I will complete this year, any guesses?

Here are my WIPs for today:
Zombie Kitty:

Just the top of his head for now, started this just before bed last night. Using a lighter/brighter green than I have in the past for the Zombie Kitties but I am liking it so far.

Purple Shawl:

This is a pattern from the back of a yarn label. I really like how it is coming out and can only imagine how it will look once blocked! Which means I may need to be getting some blocking pads pretty soon here. I am slightly surprised at how easy I found this intermediate pattern to be. Makes me excited for more difficult projects! Oh if only I could sit home and crochet all day!

That's it for me today, on to do some quick house chores then get ready for work! Have a happy Wednesday!
Checking in with Tami's Amis to see what everyone is working on.

FO Friday, 6.1.12

Happy Friday! For many that means the end of your week, for me it's just the beginning. At the studio today 9-8, tomorrow 9-6, Sunday 10-5 & Monday 9-8. These are my busy days so I gotta be there, although I'd much rather be enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having (aside from the hail the other day) and crocheting!

Drumroll please................
HENRY IS FINISHED!!!!!!!

I'm not going to lie, I am a wee bit proud of Mr. Henry! He took about 20 hours and is just about 2 feet long! I think my favorite part is his face and toenails! He has gone on to his new adoptive dragon parents and I got this from his new mom:
My husband LOVES Henry!!! We are proud dragon parents!! He is sitting in a recliner watching tv and Henry is on the arm of the chair while Chuck pats his head like he was a cat or something...cute as hell! Thanx so much..you rock!!!!
I can totally imagine this, can't you?

I also was able to FO two more Zombie Kittys -- who knew they would be hot sellers??

What did you finish off this week? See more FO's at Tami's Amis!

Spencer the Zombie Kitty

Meet Spencer the Zombie Kitty!

You know how they say cats have nine lives? Well what happens after that 9th life? Spencer is what happens!

This is how zombies started after all, from cats! Think of all those hissing, glowing eyed, arched backed pictures out there -- those are zombie kittys! If you listen closely they aren't hissing, they are saying "BRAINNNSSS!!!"

Spencer is one of the first Zombie Kittys! He was caught years ago by baiting him with brains left over from the filming of Hannibal! At that point he had his mouth sewn shut so he couldn't bite anyone else and create more zombies! Over the years he has become domesticated and can now live (somewhat peacefully) among humans.

He still has a bit of a mischievous side and gets himself in all sorts of trouble if not watched closely! He loves to go on all sorts of adventures!

In all honesty, he has gotten to be a little too much for me to handle -- but I bet you can keep him in line just fine!

All he needs is a little love, some brains on occasion and plenty of play time! Think you can do that? If so, you can adopt him here!

Yarn Used: Red Heart With Love in Lettuce
Red Heart Super Saver in Black

WIP Wednesday, 5.30.12

Woohoo! Another WIP Wednesday! For an awfully gray morning I am quite bright eyed and cheery! Looking forward to a day full of Crochet and Photos (editing, dropping off, and meeting with a client)!

So what do I have going today...
MORE ZOMBIE KITTYS!!!
I could totally see this picture spinning and spinning and spinning as the beginning or end of a low budget zombie movie filmed entirely in a dark, creepy sepia tone.

One of these little guys is for my SIL and another is one that was sold on Etsy. I may or may not have done a little dance around a bonfire when I opened my email and saw that one had sold...

Hoping to get these guys finished today and get a little Dino Cop started!

I know in knitting it is considered "casting on" when you are starting a project/piece of a project. Is that the same for crochet??

Also on a side note, I went to help out my dad with some marketing for his gallery yesterday and also visited his store, where I have some of my first ever amigurumi's on sale. HOLY COW have I come a long way! I am almost embarrassed to be selling those ones now! I know I am the only one who sees it this way. It is awesome to see the progress though.

PSSSSTTTTT..... Missing Henry from this week's WIP???? You will have to check back on Friday then for FO Friday (YAYYYY!!!)

FO Friday, 5.25.12, First one!

Yay! My first Finish Off Friday!

I was hoping I would be able to share a finished Henry with you but alas I had to frog his front legs and start them over. Bummer too because I was almost done with the second one! He is one toe, one foot and two wings from being finished.

I have, however, finished Spencer the Zombie Kitty. A co-worker asked me to make one for her sons birthday. He was originally going to be just a plain old kitty, but a Google image search for crocheted cat had a zombie one in the mix, she was sold!

Spencer was quick to work up. I wasn't really a fan of him at first, zombies really aren't my thing—neither are cats for that matter—but once I worked up his face and assembled him I found him awfully adorable (for a zombie...)

I even went and made a little brain to go with him. One image posted on Facebook & twitter (@katelavin) and I have two more orders! Who knew zombies and kittys were a winning combination?

You can have your very own too! Just visit my Etsy shop!

Spencer was also the first one I did a photo shoot for using a simple white backdrop, what a difference it makes!

What did you finish this week? Follow others here at Tami's Amis.

WIP Wednesday • 5.23.12

Nice Legs!

Not much has changed on the Henry front. Had a lot of life/work stuff going on that took away my crochet time. Seemed like there was a party/event every day this weekend! I also started Fifty Shades of Grey. Not the best book to start when you have stuff to do.... so hard to put down!

However I did get the muzzle/belly spot done for Henry (the black under him isn't his shadow) as well as worked on his hind legs. I like the way the toes came out, but reminds me that I need a pedicure stat! Can't have his toes looking better than mine now that it's filp-flop season!

Also started Spencer, the Zombie Kitty this week. Why isn't he listed as a WIP? Well because he's done! Started and finished him super quick! So cute it's scary :-) You will see him for FO Friday (my first ever!!! Yay!!!) As well he will have his own post with photos and story once he stops eating brains enough so that I can get a photo shoot done!

Still working on my non-crochet WIP—editing & enhancing the photos from Joe & Julie's wedding. Will post some previews over at KaitLavinPhoto once I have some "favorites"!

What have you been up to? Follow along with other WIP Wednesday peeps and visit the creator over at Tami's Ami's Blog! Do you think Henry/Henrietta will be done for FO Friday?? I hope so!
